Expert Oculoplastics service now launched at Progressive Vision

November 6, 2025

Progressive Vision are delighted to announce the launch of our Oculoplastics service, now available at both our Sandyford and Swords clinics. This exciting development expands our range of specialist eye care services, providing patients with expert treatment for eyelid, tear duct, and orbital conditions — all delivered by Dr Clare Quigley, Consultant Ophthalmologist with international expertise in oculoplastic surgery.

 What is Oculoplastics?

Oculoplastic surgery is a subspecialty of ophthalmology focusing on the structures around the eyes — including the eyelids, tear ducts, and orbit. These delicate areas play a vital role in both vision and facial expression.

Our oculoplastic service at Progressive Vision offers both medical and cosmetic procedures, helping patients with:

            • Droopy eyelids (ptosis)
            • Excess eyelid skin (dermatochalasis)
            • Eyelid malpositions (entropion or ectropion)
            • Tear duct blockages and watery eyes
            • Eyelid cysts and lumps
            • Blepharospasm (involuntary eyelid twitching)
            • Eyelid and periocular reconstruction following trauma or tumour removal

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Blepharoplasty is a procedure that treats droopy eyelids, or dermatochalasis, by removing excess skin, muscle, and fat around the eyes.

As we age, the eyelid skin naturally stretches and the muscles that support them weaken. This can cause heavy, hooded upper lids. Upper lid hooding can limit side (peripheral) vision, particularly in the upper and outer parts of your visual field.

Blepharoplasty can correct these problems, restoring clearer vision.

Blepharoplasty – Why Specialist Care Matters

In the right hands, complications are uncommon and usually minor.

At Progressive Vision, your care is led by Ms. Clare Quigley. Clare combines international fellowship training in the UK and Australia with experience as a Consultant Oculoplastic Surgeon in the UK. She is recognised for her surgical expertise, academic excellence, and her compassionate, patient-first approach — ensuring each patient receives safe, expert, and personalised care.

Recovery After Blepharoplasty: What to Expect

Healing after eyelid surgery is usually straightforward, but recovery takes time. Here’s a general guide to what you can expect after your procedure:

Week 1 – Expect bruising and swelling around the eyes; mild discomfort can be managed with simple pain relief.

Week 2 – Significant improvement; stitches are typically removed and most patients feel ready to return to normal activities.

Weeks 3–4 – Healing continues at a slower pace; minor swelling may persist.

3 months – Scars begin to fade and are usually barely noticeable.

6 months – Continued subtle improvement with final results visible.

Every patient heals differently, but most find recovery easier than expected — with noticeable improvements in comfort, vision, and appearance within just a few weeks.
